Howdy all! Well, here is the deal: A coworker forwarded me an email about a paper contest that would fund a winner to go to ALA annual conference this summer. Normally I would shrug it off due to the amount of schtuff I have to do all the time, but they have since mentioned it twice. That kind of makes it a challenge in my book. My intention is to be able to write a kickass paper that will secure that money. But you know, I am a competitive person at times, and writing something that makes me feel I have a chance to win would be pretty cool.
My first thoughts about social responsibility revolve around the idea of the library as a haven for those with needs. I think the community looks to the library as a governmental agency with a responsibility to help and protect them in time of need. I don't know.
stop the presses...the winning paper gets published in the Progressive Librarian. I better go read some issues before I go further. See how the do it over there.
More to follow.
