Fleck

Today's interesting site du jour is Fleck.

Fleck allows you to add notes and bullets to webpages and share these annotated pages with friends.

I recently came across Fleck at the website PortableApps.com. I am recently switching positions and will no longer have my own machine, but will have multiple machines to work with. Making my apps portable seemed a good way to deal with this new change, and now I no longer have to worry where things are located. Did I book mark that at home? on the laptop? at work? Now I just put the datastick in and go to work. Portable Firefox is my new best friend.

I will save PortableApps.com for another post. Back to Fleck.

Fleck allows you to go through web pages and make annotations. This feature came in real useful to me when I was doing research on the Global HIV/AIDS crisis. I was able to make notes on portions of websites I found pertinent to my research. Fleck collects those notes at its website so I was able to keep the 30+ sites that I had put annotations on in nice coherent order.

Del.icio.us helped me out a bit. I tagged each website so I could get quick lists of web resources based on what I was needing at the time.

Fleck also lets you send someone the page you Fleck'd. So they will get the page with your notes on it.

The only drawback I noticed was that Fleck would not save pages that were too deep into the webpage. If the information was on the homepage all was good. I am sure that as this site grows in popularity they will address this issue.

So check it out.
May the Fleck be with you.

Shelfari.

Whew, been away awhile, but now ready to get into the mix again. I guess after about 4 years blogging just got kind of old. But with all the new exciting tools out there it seems worth it just to have a blog on cool internet tools that people can use in the library.
My new favorite is called Shelfari. It allows you to build a virtual bookshelf of the books you have read, or want to read.

Then you can make comments, submit reviews, ask questions, and give answers.
For instance, a question I have recently asked is about the book "As I Lay Dying" by William Faulkner. I wondered about the words 'corrected text' after the title. What was different about what I read? Someone posted the would get back to me when they found out.

So far this site seems pretty cool, the fun part is looking for that copy of the book that you read. My favorite was when I found the old paperback version of "Junky" that I had read when I was growing up.

Here is an example of a question someone asked about Confederacy of Dunces.

Whew!

First night off in a month. Just sitting back in the lazyboy trying not to do anything.
This is a photo I took a long time ago, it is a calming picture.
